Key broke off in the lock?

Don't use the door or push the piece in further. We pull the broken piece out and cut a fresh key from it.

Leave it alone

Trying the door again or poking at it pushes the piece deeper and can damage the pins. The less it's touched, the easier it comes out.

Once both halves are out, a new key is cut to match, so the lock keeps working with no replacement needed.

Broken keys in car doors and ignitions are handled too.

Will the lock need replacing?

Seldom. Usually only the key is replaced.

Why did it snap?
